What Has Biden Done for Black Men Lately? We’ll Let You Know
Like most presidents, Joseph Biden spent his first day in office signing executive orders that undid his predecessors’ actions. Unlike most presidents, he came in hot. Obama and Trump each signed a single order their first day; as the New York Times reports, Biden worked his way through a pen-sizzling 17, covering everything from climate change to racial equality. Whether that speaks to his initiative or his need to mitigate Trump’s unending headassery is impossible to know for sure, but it leaves us at LEVEL with a clear mission. Biden and Kamala Harris ran on a lot of promises to Black folks—now is when we start collecting.
Welcome to our official What Has Biden Done for Black Men Lately? (or #WHBD) tracker. We’re going to be keeping an eye on Joe throughout his administration, and every time he issues an order that does palpable good for Black men, we’ll point out it; every time he (through action or inaction) does the opposite, we’ll point it out more loudly. The good news is, POTUS got off to a decent start on Day One. One of his executive orders blocked the deportation of Liberian immigrants; another undid Trump-ordered limitations on diversity and inclusion training in the federal government; and a third tasks every federal agency with “rooting out systemic racism” in its ranks. Real deal? All talk? Only time will tell, but we’ll be there to walk you through it. Read the story here.
