Nancy Pelosi Is Nostalgic for a Grand Old Party That Never Was
The House speaker’s plea for purported good Republicans to reclaim their party overlooks the fact that the GOP has long been trash
Considering her title and the historical significance behind it, no one can ever completely discount the political acumen of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But it is fair to question why one of the most powerful Democrats in America would bother championing the virtues and necessity of the Republican Party in 2021.
Accepting an honorary degree from Smith College in Massachusetts last week, Pelosi made the following plea to her GOP besties: “I say to my Republican friends, take back your party. The country needs a big, strong Republican Party. And I say that as a leader in the Democratic Party. Don’t have it be a cult of personality on the extreme, extreme, extreme right.”
If this plea, ridiculous as it is, sounds familiar, it’s because Pelosi has been singing this same song for quite some time.
