I Don’t Trust Democrats to Save Abortion
Considering their recent failures and empty promises, can you blame me?
It feels like just a matter of time before abortion is no longer a legal right across America. But what makes the nightmare scenario all the more haunting is the hollow talk already coming from Democrats on what they plan to do about it.
Speaking to Fox News in front of the Supreme Court last Wednesday, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, who chairs the House Oversight and Reform Committee, explained that a republic without reproductive rights is one not living up to its promise. “We’re not even in a democracy if women can’t make decisions about their own bodies,” she explained.
Maloney was there alongside other House Democrats for a demonstration as the Supreme Court seemed poised to uphold a Mississippi law banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. However, the court’s six-member conservative majority appeared divided on whether to stop the ban at 15 weeks or overrule Roe entirely — the latter of which would allow other states to immediately restrict or outlaw abortions entirely.
