In his first interview since being shot seven times by police in August, Jacob Blake spoke with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan about the intense seconds that followed his maiming in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Now partially paralyzed, Blake, 29, detailed the moments leading up to the shooting — how he only “resisted” arrest by refusing to be beaten and choked, believing he wouldn’t survive the excessive use of police force — and the heartbreaking reality that three of his sons were in the backseat watching the events unfold. While his account is difficult to hear, Blake is alive and well enough to tell his story. In the wake of the charges being dropped against the police officers, Blake excavates the deep physical and emotional tragedy in his own words. Watch the full interview here.
