Ever wonder how it feels to win $50,000? Welp, here’s your chance to find out!
Medium recently launched a writing competition that is offering payouts of various sums to those who submit the finest essays — pieces that make readers think and/or feel deeply. The Medium Writers Challenge is a chance to express yourself in text, have your ideas read by an esteemed panel of judges (more on that in a bit), and walk away with a hefty bag. If you don’t know, now you know!
Participating in the challenge is simple: Write and post a previously unpublished essay to Medium in response to one of four supplied topics (reentry, space, death, and work). Include the tag that corresponds with the appropriate prompt to include it in the running (each entry can only address one topic). You can write once for each prompt, giving you four opportunities to enter.
Each prompt provides the chance to win $10,000; the top-voted of those four winners will receive an additional $50,000 grand prize. Additionally, 100 honorable mention selections will each win $100. Alongside Medium staff, a panel of cultural leaders, editors, and writers will serve as guest judges to select their favorites. Those judges include Natalie Portman, Roxane Gay, Saeed Jones, Imani Perry, Eve L. Ewing, Dao-Yi Chow, and Julio Vincent Gambuto, plus LEVEL regulars Bonsu Thompson and David Dennis Jr., among others.
If you’re anything like us, the last thing you won was a plush toy at a carnival. Let’s change that streak while sharing your voice and ideas with the world. Check out the link below to read all about the particulars of the Medium Writers Challenge. Write on!
