On Monday, Lil Nas X described a burden shared by many gay Black men when he tweeted, “the shit y’all say about me would drive me crazy if i didn’t already love myself.”

The 22-year-old rapper was responding to an interview Boosie Badazz gave to The Breakfast Club on Monday to defend past homophobic rants lodged at him. In recent weeks, Boosie has told Lil Nas X to “suck a dick on IG” and “get fucked in the ass” in addition to threatening to “beat his faggot ass.” Lil Nas X recently revealed he’s hired security due to concerns over safety, including comments made by other rappers.

Unsurprisingly, though, Boosie sees himself as both victim and savior to a problem rooted in his own prejudices.

“I just be feeling like sometimes I gotta speak up because, as far as straight people in the world, you don’t have any opinion,” he said. “If you say anything — ‘I’m straight, I like women’ — it’s vulgar. You can’t brag on really smashing or your sexuality anymore.”

I want to stress that the mere fact that Lil Nas X has to concern himself with what dumbass Boosie thinks about anything — much less…
