Biden’s Border Crisis Continues a Legacy of American Cruelty Toward Haiti

Last Friday, an American president told the American people a familiar line about how Americans treat people far better than the country’s history reflects. I’m not sure how many people fell for it, but the effort alone is enough to make one wonder if we’ve only begun to see the worst of an ongoing migrant crisis.
In response to the ongoing criticism over the administration’s treatment of Haitian migrants, President Biden said the imagery — including the sight of immigration officers on horseback using reins like whips on migrants — was “beyond an embarrassment” and “dangerous.”
“It sends the wrong message around the world,” Biden explained. “It’s simply not who we are.”
Biden said there would be consequences after an investigation, but the attitude of his press secretary told us everything we needed to know as to how seriously the Biden administration takes the matter.
